This is my love letter to all the queer musicians out there, making art and kicking ass. If there's an artist you think I should know about, please let me know, I love new music! (I also reblog/post on general queer and trans stuff, radical news, and instances when the world is fucked, and when it isn't!)

This is Hi Fashion, an electro-dance-pop duo based out of L.A. Like many other pop groups these days, they take a ton of influence from modern techno and house, but also, much to my delight, early 90’s genre’s of the same variety. This is important because at that point in time, top 40 pop had not gotten their hands all involved in electro, and it was infinitely gayer. Hi Fashion embraces this wholeheartedly, and I love them for it.
Their music is all the harsh beats and synth patches you expect.  There are no live instruments here. Programmer Rick Gradone has crafted a pure computer generated mess, many layers of simple beats and melodies all fighting one another for attention and somehow miraculously working together to create a coherent sound. Vocalist Jen DM is of the speak-sing school, like the queer child of all the members of the B-52’s (particularly Fred Schneider, and that’s a compliment) and Peaches. Hi Fashion is a band you dance to, hard, one to get lost in. And I have a feeling they wouldn’t want it any other way.
They will be self-releasing their first EP, Sprechen Sie Hi Fashion? July 26th, and I will be reviewing it, so be on the lookout for that. In the meantime, check ‘em out:http://www.theworldofhifashion.comhttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Hi-Fashion/183379288362777http://soundcloud.com/hi-fashion-music
