Why hello there, pretty lady. A.K.A the pop songstress Class Actress.
Elizabeth Harper is a Brooklyn based pop goddess who performs under the moniker of Class Actress. Taking influence from 80s new wave, all types of modern pop, and most notably, Madonna, Class Actress has weaved together elements from all to create dark and haunting pop.
Upon first listen, it might be easy to write off Harper as a combination of 80s wannabe pop and Jersey Shore-esque synth driven house. But the more you hear, the less sense that label makes. Her songs are deep and layered, hypnotic and comforting, then with bursts of synth or phased noise. Her song “Careful What You Say,” is a perfect example of these elements. What Class Actress is doing may not be all that original, but it is so fucking good, it doesn’t matter.
